Things to Do in Whyalla on the Eyre Peninsula:

The Airport Whyalla Motel is close to the Mount Laura Homestead Museum, constructed in 1922. World War II history can be found at the Whyalla Maritime Museum which houses the former HMAS Whyalla, which is now established in 1988 now permanently landlocked two kilometres from the sea.

Whyalla Marina has provided access to some of South Australia's best fishing grounds and is home to the Whyalla Yacht Club and Whyalla Sport Fishing Club. Whyalla has become known as a 'boaties paradise' together with the accolade of being the home of Australia's best red snapper fishing. With 'big reds' in excess of 15kgs, Point Lowly has become one of the preferred spots to produce a great catch.

Every year between May and August, thousands of Giant Cuttlefish descend on the rocky coastline between Fitzgerald Bay and False Bay. These amazing 'chameleons of the sea' are one of the largest species of cuttlefish found in the world; and can reach up to 60cm in length.

Excellent facilities for the visitor include a modern Foreshore Centre with cafeteria, change rooms, lifesaving and rescue headquarters; extensive lawns, free BBQs and popular playground. The linking of the Foreshore with Ada Ryan Gardens provides a large recreational area and to get some overall perspective of the city a visit to Hummock Hill is a necessity; offering exceptional 360 degree views.

North Beach offers an alternative site for swimming. Other facilities include a beach shelter and car park which can be found next to the nearby yacht club. Whyalla also offers some of the best shopping facilities outside of Adelaide. Whatever you need you will be able to find it in Whyalla.

Whyalla is a city and seaport located on the east coast of the Eyre Peninsula, approximately 394 kilometres or four to five hour drive from Adelaide. Travellers follow highway 1 South-West of Port Augusta.
