Cradle Mountain Highlanders mountain chalet accommodation Tasmania's Cradle Mountain National Park.Cradle Mountain Highlanders - spoil yourself in this rustic mountain chalet style accommodation on the edge of Tasmania's Cradle Mountain National Park. Ten hand-built cabins on 10 acres of natural bushland, enjoying a stunning view of Cradle Mountain, just 1.5km to the entrance to the World Heritage listed Cradle Mountain National Park.

The various cabins are ideal for a family or group holiday, romantic couples accommodation or to just get away and relax for a short stay. We offer double and spa cabins for couples, a family cabin, a 2 bedroom cabin and studios for families or groups, as well as a bushman's hut where you will step back into the spirit of the true bushman's lifestyle. All our cottages are fully self contained with mineral water on tap, ensuite bathrooms, with electric blankets, log fires (8 cabins) or gas fires (2 cabins), TV, private verandahs, and spa baths in two cabins. Portable BBQs can be set up on your deck or verandah and laundry facilities are available.

Continental breakfast baskets are available, as is ground coffee with coffee plungers in all cabins and dark orange chocolates and truffles with Port can be purchased from Reception. There are cafes and restaurants within 1.5km. Cradle Mountain Lodge offers formal dining at its Highland Restaurant and has a bistro/tavern which serves counter meals while the Cradle Mountain Chateau has a casual buffet and an a la carte restaurant.

Things to do in Cradle Mountain:

Cradle Mountain Highlanders Cottages is an ideal base for a Tasmanian outdoor adventure holiday as you set out to explore the Cradle Mountain and Lake St Clair wilderness area which is renowned for its spectacular mountain scenery. For great exploration and photography try The Overland Track which is one of the most popular bushwalking treks in Australia. Or explore Tasmania's Mole Creek and its spectacular caves and underground wilderness.

Other activities in the area include, horse riding, either in the Cradle Mountain area or at Tullah 40 minutes drive towards Queenstown, or at Staverton 35 minutes towards Sheffield, canoeing, mountain bike hire, guided wildlife tours, trout fishing (season August to April) and close encounters with Tasmanian Devils at the new "Devils@Cradle" interpretation and viewing facility, situated just next door to Cradle Mountain Highlanders Cottages.

Further afield visit Ashgrove Farm which specialises in award winning English Country style cheeses where you can view the cheese making and taste the range of cheeses. The Cheese factory is located on the Bass Highway 20 minutes from Devonport, just over an hour's drive from the cottages. Or the Honey Farm at Chudleigh, located halfway between Deloraine and Mole Creek, with over 30 varieties of honey for the tasting. Or visit some of the local wineries with their distinctive offering of fine Tasmanian wines, for example Lake Barrington Estate set on the banks of picturesque Lake Barrington with Riesling, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon grape varieties. Lake Barrington Estate is located just outside Sheffield one hour from Cradle Mountain Highlanders Cottages.

Finding Us

Cradle Mountain Highlanders Cottages are located in the Cradle valley on highway C132, about 3.5 km after the turn off to Cradle Mountain. The cottages are on the right hand side of the road 200 metres past the National Park's Cradle Information Centre and just a couple of minutes drive from the entrance to Tasmania's the World Heritage listed Cradle Mountain - Lake St Clair National Park.
